Set of companies that offer products or services of the same nature as those of another company; this term is also used to refer to the set of brands that offer products or services that are of different nature but that cover the same needs, so they can take away market share. Thus, economic agents have the freedom to offer products in the market and choose whom to buy them from, which translates into a situation of plurality of suppliers and a plurality of demanders.
